State Mandate

Sample Letter to Send to Committee Members

Please join a growing list of legislators who oppose Bill S122/H2633, including Sen. Susan Tucker and Sen. Harriette Chandler who have both stated their opposition in writing.  This bill would take away our democratic right to vote on an issue involving local control.  Not only would this bill cost Massachusetts taxpayers monetarily, but the cost associated with putting hazardous industrial waste in our drinking water is also quite troubling.

Please oppose Bill S122/H2633 because it abolishes our current law (M.G.L. 111, Section 8C) that gives us the right to VOTE on water fluoridation. If passed, this bill would require every city and town in the Commonwealth with populations over 5,000 to add fluoride chemicals to their drinking water without a local hearing or vote.

Please help defend our VOTING FREEDOM. Please leave our current fluoridation law as it is and reject the mandate. I think we deserve a CHOICE at the local level when it comes to water fluoridation.  Citizens from Worcester, Springfield, and other Massachusetts cities and towns have made it repeatedly clear that they do NOT want their water fluoridated.  Please respect these clear wishes and do not pass such a heavy-handed public health measure when so many alternative approaches are available.

Connecticut has been entirely fluoridated since the 1960's and their Oral Health Task Force just declared an oral health crisis.

Boston, Fitchburg, Southbridge and Lowell have been fluoridated since the 1970's and they have each declared an oral health crisis.

Fluoridation does not work. We cannot afford the financial, health and environmental costs associated with fluoridation.   In fact, there is now a shortage of fluoridation chemicals, and the cost will undoubtedly go up considerably.

For more information, please go to http://www.orowma.org/issue.htm or http://www.fluoridealert.org/. I think once you thoroughly review the facts, you'll agree that fluoridation causes a great deal of harm and very little good.

Please provide a written response to me regarding your stance on this issue.

Thank you for your consideration,
